How to Match Radiographic Film and Dark Bags

Film and dark bags are ordered together often, but a shared nominal size is not enough to confirm a fit. Start with the film format specified by the approved radiographic technique, then check the usable space and closure arrangement of the bag.

1. Identify the film format

Record the manufacturer and model or required film classification, whether the order is for sheets or rolls, the width and length with units, and the intended packaging. The film system and processing route must meet the applicable written procedure; do not assume two brands or grades are interchangeable based on dimensions alone.

2. Check the bag’s usable internal space

Compare the actual film dimensions with the bag’s usable internal width and length, rather than relying only on an outside measurement or a nominal size in a listing. Allow for the loading method and any screens or inserts that the approved technique requires. Confirm the opening direction and closure details against the way the assembled film package will be positioned.

3. Confirm the order details

State the film model or reference, film size and unit, sheet or roll format, the required bag size or drawing, any screens or inserts, bag closure preference, quantity and destination. Ask for the current product datasheets or a sample where fit or construction matters. Product-specific film classification, processing, storage and bag construction should be checked against the current manufacturer information.

Questions buyers commonly ask

Can I choose a dark bag by the film size alone?

No. Confirm the usable internal dimensions, loading clearance and closure arrangement, especially when screens or inserts are used.

Are two film grades with the same dimensions interchangeable?

Dimensions alone do not establish imaging or processing equivalence. Follow the approved technique and the current product documentation.

What if the exact bag size is not listed online?

Send your film dimensions and a drawing or sample of the existing bag. YESNDT can confirm current size and construction options during quotation.
